Practical Computer Security Training for Real People

Most computer advice assumes you already understand the technology.

The Grumpy Sysadmin Academy won’t.

I’m building step-by-step training to help ordinary people protect their Windows PCs, online accounts, home networks, personal information, backups, and family members—without needing a degree in computer science.

The Academy is currently in development. No payment is being requested today.

Joining the list doesn’t require a purchase and doesn’t commit you to anything.

What Will Be Inside the Academy?

The Academy will be organized into straightforward courses, lessons, checklists, and practical walkthroughs you can follow at your own pace.

The first training areas are planned around the problems people ask me about most.

    Protect Your Windows PC

Learn how to configure Windows safely, recognize dangerous settings, reduce unnecessary risks, keep your PC updated, and know what to do when something goes wrong.

    Secure Your Online Accounts

Protect your email, banking, shopping, social media, and other important accounts before someone tries to take them over.

    Passwords and Account Recovery

Create a password system that is secure and manageable, use multifactor authentication correctly, and prepare recovery options before you need them.

    Lock Down Your Wi-Fi

Secure your router, improve your wireless settings, separate risky smart devices, and understand what is connected to your network.

    Protect Your Smartphone

Reduce unnecessary tracking, protect sensitive information, secure important apps, and prepare for a lost or stolen phone.

    Scam and Fraud Defense

Recognize phishing emails, fake warnings, fraudulent calls, text-message scams, QR-code traps, and impersonation attempts.

    Backups That Actually Protect You

Build a backup system that can survive hardware failure, accidental deletion, malware, ransomware, and the loss of an entire computer.

    Protect Your Identity and Family

Reduce the personal information criminals can find and help protect spouses, parents, children, and other family members.

    Who Is the Academy For?

The Grumpy Sysadmin Academy is being built for ordinary computer users who want clear, practical help protecting themselves, their devices, and the people they care about.

You won’t need advanced technical knowledge. If you can use a web browser, follow a video, and click through a few settings, you’ll be able to use the Academy.

    • Use a Windows computer but do not consider themselves a computer expert.
    • Are tired of conflicting, confusing, or overly technical advice.
    • Want to protect themselves before something goes wrong.
    • Worry about scams, stolen accounts, identity theft, or losing important files.
    • Help less-technical family members with computers and online accounts.
    • Prefer clear demonstrations and practical instructions instead of technical lectures.
    • Want one trusted place to learn what matters and ignore what does not.

    The Academy Roadmap

The Academy will be built in stages so the most important training can be created first, tested with real users, and improved before the full public launch.

Interest-list feedback will help determine the order of the first courses and resources.

    1. Research and Planning — Gather feedback from viewers, readers, and interest-list members to identify the problems people need the most help solving.
    2. Foundational Courses — Build the first lessons around the highest-priority areas, including Windows security, online accounts, scams, home Wi-Fi, and backups.
    3. Founding Member Access — Open the Academy to a limited group at the lowest available price so they can use the material, provide feedback, and help shape the program.
    4. Early Access Launch — Expand enrollment at an introductory price while the course library continues to grow.
    5. Full Academy Launch — Open the complete core program with the regular pricing structure and a clear learning path for new members.

How Will the Academy Be Priced?

Final pricing has not been set yet.

I’m currently evaluating whether the Academy should use a one-time purchase, an ongoing subscription, or a combination of both.

The goal is to make the Academy affordable enough to be useful to ordinary computer users while still supporting updated lessons, new security training, checklists, and practical resources.

    Founding Member Pricing

The lowest price the Academy will be offered at. Founding enrollment will be limited and available before the public launch.

    Early Introductory Pricing

A discounted launch price for the first wider group of Academy members.

    Regular Pricing

The standard price after the Academy’s introductory launch period ends.

Joining the Academy interest list does not lock in a purchase, reserve a paid seat, or obligate you to enroll later. It simply makes sure you receive the Founding Member details before the public launch.

    When Will the Academy Launch?

The Grumpy Sysadmin Academy is currently in the research and development stage.

I haven’t announced a firm launch date yet because the first course lineup, pricing model, and Founding Member offer are still being finalized.

Interest-list members will receive development updates and will be the first to know when the Founding Member enrollment and initial Academy access dates are confirmed.

Help Me Build the Right Academy

I don’t want to build another pile of generic computer lessons that nobody finishes.

I want to create an Academy that answers the questions real people have, protects the things they actually care about, and gives them clear steps they can confidently follow.

Tell me what you need the most help protecting, and I’ll build from there.

No payment is being requested. Joining the interest list doesn’t commit you to purchasing the Academy.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Not yet. It is currently being planned and developed. Joining the interest list is the best way to receive updates and learn when Founding Member access becomes available.

No. No payment information is requested, and joining the interest list doesn’t commit you to making a future purchase.

No. The Academy is being designed for ordinary computer users. Lessons will explain what to do, why it matters, and how to do it safely.

No. The YouTube channel will continue providing free videos. The Academy will offer a more organized, complete, step-by-step learning experience with courses and supporting resources.

That decision hasn’t been finalized. It may use a one-time purchase, a subscription, or a combination of both.

The exact Founding Member package is still being developed. It is expected to include the earliest Academy access, the lowest available pricing, and opportunities to provide feedback.
